This mixed tenure housing scheme incorporates the new design standards of the London Plan and provides much needed low cost housing in a sustainable location. It was established early in the design process that the green space and mature trees along the site frontage are a valuable amenity asset for the site and that redevelopment should be designed to retain and enhance this space. The site layout ensures that entrances and living spaces overlook the street creating a secure public domain. The new access road is designed as a ‘home-zone’ encouraging low speeds, pedestrian priority and safe street play. The scheme comprises 41 new dwellings including houses and flats for 2 to 5 person families, for open market sale and for affordable housing rented and shared ownership. Two flats and two houses are designed to accommodate the families of wheelchair users.
