Shaftesbury Place, Brighton – John Whiting Architecture

A new commercial building on the site of derelict garages accessed from a narrow lane to the rear of large Victorian residential properties, the site adjoins workshop buildings, garages and London Road Station on the south coast mainline railway.

The building was designed to adapt to a number of commercial uses and tenants planned around an open atrium space and double height entrance. During construction the interior layout was redesigned to accommodate the specific requirements of The Brighton Academy, a successful college of Performing Arts which needed a new campus facility.
