John Whiting is a RIBA chartered architect with over 30 years of professional experience in the design and management of a wide range of projects with award winning architectural practices in the UK, Hong Kong and Australia. In 2005 John established his own practice based in Brighton providing architectural design services to private clients, public organisations, developers and working in collaboration with established practices on large projects.

The practice provides full architectural services from early ideas and concepts through detail design to a completed building project. John is personally involved in every project using his skills and experience to guide individual clients through the complex process of design, planning and construction. Broad experience gained in the design and construction of many building types allows John to adapt to the unique challenges and opportunities of every new project. Hand drawn and computer generated visualisation techniques are used to help clients in making choices and decisions.

Current projects include both new build and conversions for a range of building types; private houses, schools, offices, interiors, housing and commercial developments,

John has extensive experience in conservation and listed buildings, including preparation of heritage statements.

Feasibility and concept design

John has extensive experience in the preparation of initial development strategies. Through a process of site analysis, context study and concept design the development potential of a site can be established in collaboration with a client’s land appraisal and brief requirements.

Design for living

Each project is unique with its own set of constraints and opportunities. Realising the potential of the project is the key to its success. Experience has shown John that projects of any size have the potential to be challenging and fulfilling for the client and the designer even more so when the project is a home.

Design for working

Work space design whether for a school, a large corporate facility or for adapting the home is about end user comfort and flexibility. In a commercial environment it is key to create a professional image with a framework of services and spatial order allowing efficient working and future change.

Master planning for sustainable communities

Current involvement with master planning projects includes residential, mixed use and commercial developments aimed at creating sustainable communities with excellent environmental performance and viable urban regeneration.

Visualisation

During the design process visualising the end product is critical for communicating ideas, testing proposals and decision making. As part of his design method John uses sketch drawings, 3D computer modelling and artistic renderings for presentation to clients, local authorities and the public.
