St Marys School, Oxted

Approved planning scheme for a new enclosure building over an existing swimming pool.

The school is an established part of the local community and the aim of the project is to extend the use of the swimming pool for the school and community groups. The existing pool is in need of refurbishment and pool plant upgrade, in addition the changing facilities are outdated and inadequate and there are no toilet facilities. The proposed enclosure structure will allow all season use of the pool which will greatly increase the amount of swimming instruction and practice time available for school pupils. Additionally the pool will be available for community use through swimming lessons and group training sessions.

The proposed pool enclosure structure is to be a proprietary system building by a specialist supplier. The layout is designed to fully enclose the existing pool and surrounding terrace. To provide toilets, changing facilities and upgraded pool plant and service areas the enclosure is to be extended partly into the grassed area to the west of the pool. This will include improved community use access from Silkham road with ramped pathway and steps up to a terraced waiting area and main entrance to the pool enclosure. A separate pool entrance is to be provided on the school side of the building.

 Approved in 2022.
